Café in Chania, Crete

The project is situated at 1866 Square, occupying the ground level of a restored historic hotel. It consists of an elongated, windowless space with a mezzanine, formerly serving as a travel agency and clothing store. The purpose of the project is to create a new café, including a preparation room and an office on the upper level.

The design is intended to be both minimalist and warm, drawing inspiration from the first Monogram Coffee Shop in Chania Old Town, while also providing a more urban atmosphere. The café features indoor seating areas that may serve as workspaces, a wine tasting corner, and, of course, a bar where coffee preparation takes place.

The space is defined by light tones and intricate steel structures, ranging from load-bearing beams to custom railings and furniture. Oak wood adds a sense of warmth, while a streamlined counter made of translucent white Corian serves as a focal point. The original terrazzo flooring provides a warm backdrop to the new structural elements.

The façade is designed to support the café’s function and to harmonize with the overall design of the rehabilitated building.
